Having discovered a site with stunning panoramic views, the clients requested a design that directly enhanced their unique setting.

This project embodies the architectural adage "form follows function." The house was designed to take full advantages of the splendid views, while still remaining a sheltering retreat - both protected from the sun and screened from the street below. The active daytime side of the house faces Angel Island to the east, while the quiet evening rooms are greeted by the twinkling lights of Sausalito to the west. Although form making was secondary to space making, the structure retains a clarity and integrity of form. A palette of natural materials and colors adds to the impression that this house is an extension of the hillside.
